World Cup

What a day to be a cricket fan. The only downside is the hordes of envious and bitter people on social media. Particularly Australians. Sour grapes when you've just lost a final is one thing; sour grapes when you didn't even make the final is next level.

Signed it and copied to a few friends who are not exactly cricket lovers but may well add their names to the count.

Who knows, one of the stations just may see a financial benefit in competing with Sky or maybe the ECB will see a benefit in not being quite so greedy. No, ignore the bit about the ECB, just being silly.

Have to agree with coolerking, I was on the BBC site and some of the comments...... Why should a side who has won it 5 times be so bloody twisted about a win for England. They should have some dignity and look across the water to their near neighbours and see just how different they are. It's amazing on that BBC site whereby the comments by anyone who is English are gone through so carefully and yet we have to read some of the bile that other nations spit at us and just take it. It's great we had some luck yesterday, I remember 1992 when Pakistan 2 down for about 25 got out of a tricky situation when Miandad was given 'not out' and went on to a matchwinning innings then Botham was given out caught behind for the 2nd time v Pakistan, both times having not hit the ball. Then just when Lamb and Fairbrother got us back into it, the ball mysteriously swung a mile from nowhere, Reeve having had a good look at it asked the umpires to do the same but was told where to go. We were definitely hard done by but said nowt and now we win, all other nations (Apart from the team we beat) are coming out with all sorts of tripe. Good, that makes the winning of this even more sweet, the fact that it hacks off other countries fans. I also love the fact that the ignoramus people at work who hate cricket have said nothing to me all day - obviously on purpose. I just went around all day looking pleased in complete silence. Anyone who is not happy with what we saw yesterday can just go and **** OFF as I couldn't be happier.

I like the way that Jimmy Neesham dealt with the disappointment.  He tweeted:

"Kids, don’t take up sport. Take up baking or something. Die at 60 really fat and happy."

I do tend to it on the fence and I apologise for that. Yes, New Zealand are a stones throw away from their neighbours but are completely different. When they were last over here in 2015 and the Australians were due over as well, I heard a lot of opinions that seemed to say "Can't New Zealand stay and those brash, cocky sledgers can have just 2 Tests" . They got their lead from Brendan McCullum and have continued along the same lines. How nice it would be to have every side behave just like New Zealand and still be able to play competitively at the same time.

Coast to coast is over 1000 miles - some stones throw!! They are different people in the same way Canadians and Americans and, I suppose, the various Caribbean islands

Of these alternative ways of deciding a final, I would definitely opt for number six, which would make Chris Woakes the first pick in the team every time:

It's good to know that New Zealanders haven't lost their sense of humour:
