Ten best Warwickshire players of all time
#1
Interesting article:

I assume that overseas players have been excluded.
I'd have to argue about some on the list - and where is Eric Hollies?
Also, I don't think that's a picture of Frank Foster - looks more like CB Fry to me.

Yes, interesting. There will always be subjectivity in it but I'm happy to accept that Trott and Bell are amongst the ten best of my time (particularly if you exclude short term signings like Sangakkara). I don't recall a better all-rounder for us than Rikki Clarke and there have been few spinners to rival Jeetan Patel. We have been lucky to have these guys around together.

I have been a member since 1980, so i thought i would post my best team since that year. 1980 a good year to become a member as we won the Sunday league. So here goes 1 Amiss 2 Knight 3 Kallicharan 4 Trott 5 Bell 6 Woakes 7 Piper 8 Patel 9 Donald 10 Small 11 Willis

That looks a pretty good choice.  If we could select from a squad of 12, we could add Ashley Giles to give a second spin option if needed.

Interesting exercise, Willis was an England "great" but his efforts for Warwickshire would not justify that description. My eleven in my lifetime: Amiss, Knight, Kanhai, Kallicharran, MJK Smith, Humpage,  Woakes, Cartwright, Giles, Donald, Gibbs. No one has been excluded because of nationality and each player gave at least 5 years service.

Refreshing to see a mention for Lance Gibbs there. He would be my first choice spinner. Endless enthusiasm, believed he would take a wicket with every ball, lightning in the field, total ferret with the bat. Entertainment personified. Watching him bowl to Garry Sobers when Nottingham visited still sticks in my mind. There probably aren't many of us left that saw him in his pomp but he was a top player.

Yes, Lance was great!

Some difficult choices Piper was a far better keeper than Humpage but Humpage a better batsman. Lara gave us one unforgettable year but that was it. Cant argue with your team but didn't really see MJK, Cartwright or even Gibbs.

So mine would be Amiss, Knight, Trott, Kanhai, Bell, Kallicharan, Woakes, Giles, Piper, Donald, Willis

Willis although not appreciated had to balance his England career with his Warwickshire. he didn't have the luxury of time off and produced some amazing opening ball spells
