Lancashire v Bears
#1
It will be interesting to see the side selected for this key match on Friday.
Tonight, v Worcestershire, Lancashire bowled 13 overs of spin which resulted in 66 runs conceded for four wickets with 32 dot balls.
Although Worcestershire lost easily, their spinners bowled 8 overs for 42 runs and one wicket, with 18 dot balls.
So maybe the Bears will need more than Jeetan and a part-time spinner in Sibley.

With two match winning innings, from just five games, Ed Pollock has to be in the team. He gives the innings the explosive start we've lacked since Neil Carter retired.
While Robert may be bad, Robert is not all Mugabe's.

And it's looking increasingly likely that we'll have to win to go through. Big game.

A repeat of final t20 Blast North Group fixture last season when we needed to win at Old Trafford to qualify for quarter finals and comfortably lost on a slow wicket on which only 218 runs were scored in the 40 overs. Lancashire could not qualify on that occasion and their spinners bowled 14 overs that evening as we reached 94-8 in response to Lancashire's 124-5. Hopefully our team now has a few more big hitters in it (Sibley, Pollock, De Grandhomme, Elliott, Thomason) but we will have to play very well to win and qualify.

Yes I agree.  In that match, we had three spinners, of whom two - Ateeq and Poysden - seem to have fallen out of favour.

Last night's pitch had apparently already been used earlier in the day. If the same thing, a used pitch and four spinners, is dished up tomorrow then they have to be favourites. Either way, from where we were at one stage we have done well to get into this position.

No Woakes in the test team. Can he play for us tomorrow?

George Dobell said on Twitter that he thinks Woakes will be available for us.

Yes Yorkshire's huge win has really moved their Net R/R up and there are so many games that all mean something which is unusual as there are often, dead games at this stage. Pity that both Durham and Worcestershire are out as they have games where the result to them is hardly important but is to us. We cannot look at other results, just put up a really strong showing from the start unlike last years visit.

Weather might well come into the equation tonight:

Also team selection.  Lancs are likely to play three spinners and prepare the pitch accordingly. Should the Bears follow suit?  But then, if there is rain around, the spinners may struggle to grip a wet ball.
Glad I don't have to make the decisions!

Glad I don't have to make the decisions!

The forecast has slightly improved in as much as the heavy showers are coming earlier. A no result would put us ahead of Yorks, out of reach of Northampton due to there poor run rate but ruin our outside chance of finishing in the top two, however with Derby at home to Worcester a top two place seems unlikely anyway.

You would not fancy Leicester at Trent bridge unless Notts rest a few players, a defeat puts Lancs above us on run rate.

At this point I would settle for a win but lets hope we get lucky and the same scenario at Durham occurs where we chase a low score that gives the openers a chance to have a thrash and win, overtaking Derbs with an improved run rate.

I am giving this one a miss due to the forecast but will have the commentary on radio WM and the Blues on the telly!

Interesting snippet on Cricinfo
"Ian Bell is to be dropped from the Birmingham side for tonight's Blast match against Lancashire. Bell, the team captain, has an average of 25.10 at a strike-rate of 117.28 in this season's competition.

Strange looking side. No Woakes (were we told not to play him?) and now we suddenly decide to give Poysden a game. Might it have been easier to play Javid and that would also give us a stronger batting line-up.

They will play 3/4 spinners tonight.

Javid should have been in as well. Hoping for a win but I feel the surface may be against us in this one.

Hope this works out but it feels as though we are the team under pressure rather than them.

Chasing a large total is not us is it?
