Having given so much to our county maybe its time they helped him out.  Greatest ever captain during our greatest ever era.

Given the plight of the current Bears' side perhaps he could have further success at Edgbaston

I can't believe he has nothing to offer the game, even now. Especially now. All the best Dermot.

It does seem sad that, for Dermot, controversy is around every corner.  Apart from the drug problems, there was the selling of Bradman memorabilia supposedly signed by the great man (Bradman, not Dermot).  The authenticity of the signatures wasn't helped by the fact that some of the items were signed after Bradman died.
Whilst it is probably true that cricket mirrors life and that character comes out on the field as well as off, sometimes the consequences are different.
On the field, Dermot was a risk taker, not following conventional wisdom and inventing new rules and norms.  Applying the same approach to life off the field may work - you may end up as President of the United States - or it may end in disaster.
There are too many parallels for comfort between Dermot and another Championship winning Bears captain, Frank Foster.  He was another engaging, unconventional character on the field whose life after cricket spiraled downwards.
Let's hope that, with a bit of help from the cricketing community, Dermot can get it all back together.  Maybe the Club might like to buy his Wisden and let him have it back on long-term loan.

Great suggestion, Terry. Who would have the ear of Snowball to put that idea forward.

Not sure of the answer to that, though I could mention it when I am at Edgbaston next week.

Well according to Malc, he was taking a Coaching session at Edgbaston today, with Keith Barker and Belly involved !

Must be just helping out (and being paid hopefully !) for a few weeks, pending his return to Australia (see GD's article above).

From speaking to George today, it would seem that the Club did put in a bid but it has now been exceeded - latest bid was around £3000 earlier today.

Hearing Dermot talk, it makes you think how well the Bears would do if they brought Allan Donald back as a Bowling Coach (rather than Kent).  It sounds like he really inspired that Championship winning team.

Wasn't Alan Donald going to be our bowling coach some years back but his wife did not settle easy or am I getting that wrong. I do seem to remember him deciding not to stay at the club for some reason.

What a shame the club hasn't utilised Reeve's talent for getting the best out of players since.
