Worcestershire RL Cup

Sunny Singh added to the squad that played against Derbyshire:-

https://warwickshireccc.com/news/preview...-cup-2017/

I hope they stick with the XI that played at Derby - with the exception of Aaron Thomason (see my post on the Derbyshire RL Cup thread).  They generally did OK.  In place of Thomason, I'd bring in a specialist batsman, so, from the squad announced, I'd have to recall Lamb (but like many on here, I would love to see Westie given a go in the One Day) !  I'd also stick with 3 spinners, but what's the betting that OHD gets ANOTHER chance, by returning in place of one of them ?!

I think it would be a very good idea to bring OHD in as a third spinner because as sure as apples are apples he can't bowl seam up!

You have to wonder how many of the matches we have lost in this competition would have been turned round with a little cameo from the departed laurie evans (averaging over 60 for sussex at a strike rate of 140 ) !!

So Thonton in for Poysden, the only change.  New Road is never great for spinners, so I guess Josh being replaced was not a surprise and I THINK Thornton is a better bet than OHD !

Not really, Bell Hain Trott have each hit centuries, Ambrose and Clarke a few 50's...

Top score of 28 in 7 innings is underperforming no matter how much you love the kids.

If I have interpreted Mugabe's figures correctly, the young hopefuls (Thomason, Lamb, Thornton and Adair) have contributed 112 runs in 8 completed innings, average 14.  Early days for them but not great so far.

My sentiments exactly. Thomason is 19, Livingstone at Lancashire is the same age and is performing to a far higher standard. I don't feel that any of us younger players we have will be of the level we need in this generation, and it will be a few years before the next crop come through and can be assessed. I am unimpressed thus far and we really need them to step up as the squad is on its knees

Not the greatest of starts, but we shouldn't be discarding players after just a couple of games, especially when the experienced, older players have also struggled at times.

Not enough runs, again, poor bowling, again, take your pick, I guess a combination of both. Without Clarke's innings it would have been a truly derisory total.

Trying to find a bright side, Thornton took four wickets and he and Adair were the most economical of the Bears' bowlers, so maybe there's at least a faint batsqueak of hope.

Again after the likes of Derbyshire and Leicestershire, we cannot even beat our neighbours even though their overs were reduced by 15 and runs reduced by only 60+. I would have gone if it had been a game we needed to win to progress and even though I had the day off, I could see this coming. I would love to know in the modern era, who holds the record for the highest percentage of losses in all games in a season. If we are not careful, we could break that record by July.

On good batting pitches in modern ODI cricket, when you get a ton, you've got to be able to get it at a run a ball. Dependent on the surface any score at a run a ball on the 350+ pitches maybe, but certainly more the case for the big scores with time at the crease.

Why should a player with the class of Bell need 129 balls to make 104 (batting for 45 overs for a ton) when Clarke made only 20 less runs with an 84, off just 52 balls - a strike rate of 162. I think Clarke is over the hill from some of his showings so far this season, but without his knock we would have been thrashed.

Clarke may well have had an indifferent start but why did Thomason come in ahead of him at number 5? So he is a prospect but no more as already discussed. He made 11 off 17 while Clarke was not out. We can only guess how many runs we left in the shed due to this decision. The madness is really running deep.

Only May 12th... could be a lengthy season if we're not even trying to win...

Following this from afar so many issues raised by you all do seem to suggest poor decisions by Bell and Troughton. Certainly 6 defeats on the bounce is unacceptable especially as two of those defeats at the hands of teams some feel should no longer be in existence
