The future of County Cricket: have your say
#1
As a member of Worcs I was sent an email inviting me to take part in this important survey being undertaken on behalf of ECB. Nothing from Warwicks, and nothing on website that I can see.

http://populuslive.spss-asp.com/mrIWeb/mrIWeb.dll

Only available until 28 August. Needs at least 15 - 20 mins and a clear head!

Woops, sorry, I hadn't seen that thread - was looking under 'general', not '4 day' I think the best link may be http://www.ecb.co.uk/news/domestic/fan-r...37,BP.html.

Wonder how many counties have circulated their members. And more aplogies, there is a link on the official bears website, buried in the news items - but I couldn't open the link.....

I assume (hope) the matrix of options has been designed to give a useful result - but am not surprised that people lose the will to live part way through. And price options are a bit meaningless for members when membership includes all matches.

WB - No problem - thanks for directing me to the thread. I sympathise with the comments made on it. Interesting that the bears website seems to have made the same mistake I did when trying to post a link to the infamous survey.

On a more general point, Worcestershire CC are very good in keeping me up to date with news via well designed emails. Maybe I'm lazy, but I prefer that to driling for news on the website. The only time I get an email from Edgbaston is when they are trying to flog tickets - and I think these go to everyone on their database, not just members.

Chelt Bear - I am much of the opinion that the current management of WCCC are only interested in selling tickets! (and the like).

I did this survey last week and can't help thinking that the long winded set of questions about price/competition and stage of season might be designed to produce the answers they want, as opposed to what the fans really want.

Or maybe they want us to give up halfway through and then use a lack of replies as a reason to ignore what we want.

Hope I am wrong though.

I mentioned that I sent an e-mail to the ECB complaining about the survey. I just wonder if any other people (not just from this Board) have done the same - and have any of the counties complained about it? Or am I just a lone voice?
[Edit] Having seen this, I'm not on my own:

just completed it.

seemed more designed for someone who hasn't been near a county ground in years, fair enough I suppose.

I basically advocated more weekend cricket. If we get that next year, even if it is a bit of a hotch potch, it would represent a step forward.

What was the 2pm till 9pm nonsense all about? Pink ball midweek cricket on the horizon?

Ideas to resurrect/improve the P40 competition here I quite like

http://blogs.espncricinfo.com/countycric...stupid.php

My problem is more a deep-rooted dissatisfaction with the CB40 at this point in the season. Games are being played in dribs and drabs to fit in with Sky TV scheduling requirements, rather than as part of a full round of matches. It leaves the tournament lacking a sense of structure or momentum.

There’s little feeling that the group stages are reaching any kind of climax. The qualifying tables are a mess, with some teams having played eleven games, some seven. How is the casual sports fan, the spectator the game desperately wants and needs to attract, supposed to work out which sides are doing well from a quick glance at the tables?

Dave - it's a compelling missive to anyone who really cares about the Club and cricket in this country.
I hope that it doesn't fall on deaf ears and that, if you get a response, you will share it with us.

It's very sad that you feel you had to resign, but it's obvious that you are unable to get acceptable value from your membership. The club has lost not only your membership subscription , but also the additional money you would have spent on catering and merchandise etc.

It's very rare for people to rejoin after resigning there membership, so the club has lost your income for what is likely to be at least 20 years.

Hopefully you will reconsider your decision if the circumstances change, we need more members, not less.

Very sad................. but as I said a dew weeks ago - this is my last season too. I will not bother putting pen to paper - I will go quietly. Shockingly, this is on the back of what for the Bears has been a season where we are challenging for two trophies. However, this isnt based on one season......... it been coming for a while.

Having read your letter, I agree with every word written. I can relate to every paragraph. Yes the weather has been difficult (my three major days play lost); but the cost, time wasted due to the weather, fixture list and tight packed fan unfriendly T20 season etc. etc. just didnt float my boat.

Sad - but I suspect we will not be the only ones............ the Middlesex game could be seen as the ghost of seasons future. Some of the rump core saying - "problem, what problem" as the games administrators look on.

Cricket needs to take a grip ........... and quick IMHO.

warley,

I think Stratford CC offer social membership at a very resonable cost, with cricket both days every weekend :-)
