Chris Woakes
That's not good news. However long it takes, I hope he makes a full recovery.

Chris is injured again:

He does seem to have become injury prone; and he hasn't really done enough so far to cement his place in the England side.

I wonder if the problem is that he has been a 80 mph bowler all his career and now he has even touched 90 mph, maybe putting too much strain on his body

Yes, that's possible.  When I spoke to him at the press day before the start of the season, I asked him about the increase in pace, he said that he thought it was a natural development as he "grew into" his body - but maybe he thinks differently now.

Yes its quite an increase in pace though from a few years back. His body is no doubt much stronger than it was but the more you push things to the limit the more the body will break down. A lot of fast bowlers these days get injured. Look at Cummings. He's got real pace but barely played a first class game. Someone like Steyn has rarely got injured and he has quite a slight frame. But he doesn't bowl flat out very often.

I guess its about managing your body.

I actually think Chris has bowled well in the odis. Change of person but i think Moeen was very impressive in the last match. He seems to be bowling far better in the odis than the tests. I think he bowled one bad ball out of 10 overs last match and spun it a lot. Rashid and Moeen could do very well in the UAE

In concentrating on Ian Bell, we shouldn't lose sight of the fact that Chris Woakes is going to South Africa.  With Finn and Wood out of the picture, he surely stands an excellent chance of breaking into the Test team.

I hope so Terry. Anderson, Broad, Stokes and then Jordon or Chris for the other spot.

Don't think much of Jordan as a bowler - In my mind he's a donkey-drop bowler - To pinch Paul's saying (re Adil Rashid) he bowls too much tosh!.

Chris Woakes - Major Talent - Got a little quicker over the last 18 months (despite recent injury) - Moves the ball late off the pitch and through the air - More than useful batsman - Fine catcher of a cricket ball - Deserves a run in the side - Lovely bloke (born to play cricket) - I wish him well.

Excellent. Let's hope he remembers how to play red ball cricket.

Go Woaksey!

He could really do with bagging a few wickets tomorrow if he's to stand a chance of retaining his place, assuming that Anderson is fit for the next test. Sadly, though, he'll probably have to do something special to stay in the team.

Now that he hasn't made England's World T20 squad, it really does look as if Chris's international career has stalled, at least for the moment.  That may be good news for the Bears but a bit sad that he hasn't quite made it.

Yes it is sad, Stokes has obviously moved to another level and England want more variation with left arm seamers.

Good to see Chris back in action for England today.

Congratulations to Chris Woakes - 95 not out off 92 balls, the highest score ever by a number 8 in an ODI.
