Released List
#1
What do people think of the chances of Carter and Anyon being on the clubs released list soon, to add to Poonia ? I saw Carter for the first time this season on Sky last week and I've never seen anyone 'let himself go' as much, so quickly (a real 'porker' now !) - and he's not done much this season (with bat or ball). As for Anyon, I know Giles said the loan to Surrey might help - and the club haven't, "closed the door yet", but he still hasn't played for them and he's had (another) atrocious season for us bowling. I really don't know why we've persevered with him for so long - and in the meantime, let Shantry, Daggett and Groenewald go.

Can't see us releasing Carter but I'm afraid I don't disagree that Anyon ought to be released.

Doesn't Anyon have another year on his contract?

I think Carter might have another year too, but I think they will keep him on anyway. Its a little unfair on Jimmy Anyon Bald Reynold as he has had his injury problems. It must be a nightmare being a seamer, as you you get yourself into a rhythm and then get injured and its so difficult to get it back. I am suprised that Surrey would take Anyon on loan then not play him. Thats hardly fair on the lad.

Well said Bear4life.

I find it very strange that we have had two new posters this week both suggesting that Neil should be released.

Neil is a very productive one day player and a decent player in the longer game too. I have no doubts whatsoever that if he was released, and I'm certain he has another year on this contract, he would have no shortage of options to continue playing.

Why? Why does that even matter in any conversation. Some of the newish posters are better than the 100+ posters. It has no relevance.

People can have an opinion. They dont have to always agree with you. =)

And they have been here since July 2009. So hardly new.

Carter may be a big lad but he is that stalwart of country cricket, the yeoman pro.
Chris, don't ask why Windy. No please don't. No.

Anyon has another year, but with us after that Yorkie seamer, it does look asf we would let him go if anyone came in. Yet only last year we exteneded his deal because Middlesex were sniffing around. Times change. With all the new competitions I can see Carter becoming virtually a one day specialist next year.

He played for their 2nds and did not do much unfortunately

I think Carter should basically play in one day cricket and the occasional 4 day game when needed....

I see (from the Birmingham Mail Online) Anyon HAS been released - no real surprise I think.
When I started this thread, I asked a question about what people thought of the merits of keeping Anyon and Carter. Nearly all thought Anyon should go, but nearly all also thought Carter should stay - and was still worth a place (at least in the One Day side). I had my doubts - but after reading everyone's opinions, I must admit I have changed my mind and now DO think he's worth another year (helped by actually seeing him play yesterday against Derbyshire - he did bowl really well !).

Shaaiq Choudhry gone as well. No surprise I suppose. Frost also likely to return to the groundstaff as expected.

With Anyon still under contract I presume this means he stays if he cant find a deal elsewhere? I can remember us doing this in the early 2000s with 4 young players - Jamie Spires was one - who were under contract but were given permission to go elsewhere. None could find a club so all stayed another year on the payroll.

Horrible time of year this is.

Did Choudhry ever make the 1st team, i remember seeing him in the 2nd a couple of times i think.

It is a horrible time of year indeed but thats life. I'm sure we've all been through similar in our careers and sometimes it is a blessing in disguise.

I suppose we have to be careful of the Dougie factor........ a player going on a season too long. However his figures from yesterday do look good.......... and we will need one day players next year.
