RE: Opening 50 over match v Derbyshire - Lilly - 17-05-2018

OHD starting the season with his usual bang. 7.5 runs an over from his first three.

I'm confused. Cricinfo says game is between Derbyshire and Warwickshire but the toss was won by Birmingham Bears who elected to field!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm confused why we should put them in with ideal batting conditions about!!

RE: Opening 50 over match v Derbyshire - Lilly - 17-05-2018

We are going to be chasing a hell of a total

RE: Opening 50 over match v Derbyshire - Warleybear - 17-05-2018

Perhaps the club, like me, aren't interested in fifty over cricket?

RE: Opening 50 over match v Derbyshire - Lilly - 17-05-2018

Always concerning when Trott has been your best bowler by a country mile.

RE: Opening 50 over match v Derbyshire - Lilly - 17-05-2018

...bowled Trotty an over too many here. Godleman has gone after him 6,4,6,2

RE: Opening 50 over match v Derbyshire - Exiled Bear - 17-05-2018

Excellent run out there though by Hose.

RE: Opening 50 over match v Derbyshire - Lilly - 17-05-2018

Another expensive Trott over to end.

Why did Jeets not bowl his full allocation? Strange choice unless injured.

RE: Opening 50 over match v Derbyshire - Exiled Bear - 17-05-2018

Jeets is the captain isn't he? Going to be a tricky chase.

That's why it surprised me so much.

Hain aside, this has been poor

I say it again awful decision to give Derbyshire first use of a belting pitch on a glorious sunny day!!

Hain excellent, Hose and Barker good contributions. Trotty would have got his first ever five wickets but for Barker dropping a reasonably simple catch! Perfect cricket weather in the sunshine.

RE: Opening 50 over match v Derbyshire - Tayls79 - 17-05-2018

From the look of the scorecard, I’d suggest the difference here was we picked two ‘cold’ opening bowlers against what has been an inform opening partnership from Derbyshire. A bit of complacency there, perhaps? 300 with the bat at a decent lick we probably wouldn’t have done last season. We looked a bowler light throughout actually, wouldn’t normally be so dependent on Trott.

RE: Opening 50 over match v Derbyshire - randombear - 17-05-2018

Firstly, well played Derbyshire; got there half way through our chase (Due to work) and I felt they bowled and fielded well, although its always easier when you have a good total to defend; from what I saw only one side deserved the win.

I cant lay too much criticism at our bowlers as obviously I didn't see it, but the figures are not great; every bowler, Jeetan apart, going at more than a run a ball is a bit much even in modern limited overs cricket. Well bowled Trotty, but we shouldn't be in a situation where he is having to bowl a full compliment of overs.

RE: Opening 50 over match v Derbyshire - Malc - 18-05-2018

I think you’ve hit the nail on the head mentioning Trotty’s figures. The pitch seemed to slow down as the day went on -hence, our quickies were being edged to the boundary with regularity in the first 15 overs. Derbyshire also ran exceptionally well and our field placings were defensive from the off. Both Olivier and Viljoen were bowling at a much slower pace than in the CC match.....and finally, I’m not convinced Keith Barker was match fit -didn’t move at all well throughout the day. Anyway, onwards and upwards!
