Two on their way out? - Terry - 30-07-2012

According to The Cricketer, both Boyd Rankin and Richard Johnson are likely to leave at the end of the season when their contracts run out.

RE: Two on their way out? - Kim - 30-07-2012

Cant blame Richard. Its inevitable.

Boyd has to do what Boyd has to do. But a look at his career, Rikkis, Barkers and Chris Wrights' under the tutelage of Graeme Welch would make sense. Id guess Notts would be one of the two. And maybe Somerset?

Richard is Warwickshire through and through and would want to stay if he was going to get first team cricket. He has to do what is right or him. He's too good to be hanging around playing second eleven cricket at this stage of his career.

Maybe Paul Bolton in the Cricketer article is correct in suggesting that, if he leaves, he may one day come back when Tim Ambrose finishes.

Thats what was said when Moeen left. Personally if player in Richard's situation goes, then good luck to them - but they shouldnt look back.

Metters and Best may be the next issue.

Richards problem, as a specialist, will be finding somewhere good to go to.

Metters and Best may be the next issue.

Yes its a bit silly suggesting the possibility of him coming back when he hasn't even left yet.

RE: Two on their way out? - Kim - 30-07-2012

Perhaps when he comes back he wont like it and will want to go again? Etc...

RE: Two on their way out? - Paul - 30-07-2012

Yes never go back it rarely works - would have loved to have seen Mooen come back mind you but on the other hand his type of batting wouldn't it into our plans.

RE: Two on their way out? - bear4life - 30-07-2012

If Rankin has increased his wage demands and has started blowing kisses at other counties then he can go. We only want committed players.

RE: Two on their way out? - bear4life - 30-07-2012

We're is Johnson going to go?

RE: Two on their way out? - boltonboy - 30-07-2012

Rankin for Middlesex

RE: Two on their way out? - boltonboy - 30-07-2012

Rankin for Middlesex

RE: Two on their way out? - Lilly - 30-07-2012

Be disappointed if we lost Rankin, injury hit season this season but we saw last season what he was capable of, hopefully a deal can be thrashed out for him.

Johnson you can understand, he needs, and is good enough, to be playing first XI cricket weekly.

If Johnson really is Warwickshire through and through but has to go to get first-team cricket, why on earth wouldn't we welcome him back at a point in the future when we need to replace Ambrose? Good reasons to go, good reasons to come back - why not? Of course, he may not want to; but if he did, I think we would be daft to rule him out simply because he left us before to get the cricket he needs.

RE: Two on their way out? - Paul - 30-07-2012

Yes Terry but its all a hypothetical at the moment. I don't know what counties need a keeper at the moment. Guess if Davies is leaving Surrey that might be an option, whether its the best option in view of the reputation Surrey has I'm not so sure.

RE: Two on their way out? - Terry - 30-07-2012

I agree - all hypothetical.
Kim was suggesting a week or so ago that Geraint Jones might be in line for the chop from Kent. But I think they rate young Billings highly.

RE: Two on their way out? - GrizzlyBear - 30-07-2012

Saw Geraint drop two reasonably makeable catches at the Rose Bowl today. Cost Kent the game.

Billings was 12th man.

RE: Two on their way out? - The Red Baron - 30-07-2012

From what I've read the issue with Boyd Rankin isn't money- rather that Warwickshire want him to reduce his international commitments. Don't forget that he's only just starting to play this season having come back from the ICC T20 tournament with a stress fracture.

Richard Johnson- well, if the opportunity exists for him to be a No.1 'keeper at another county, I'll wish him well. Sorry to say I wasn't impressed with his wicket-keeping in this match and I'll be glad to see Tim Ambrose back with the gloves.

If Johnson goes and we need back-up for Ambrose, Tom New (currently with the Unicorns) would be worth a punt.

That and his off-spin? Personally I'd love to see him back. Could be just what we need.

His batting can't be any more hit-and-miss than Porterfield's, can it?
